Dance With Me Tonight

Published on December 8, 2024 By Sabin

This song is about being wretched in spirit and mind and still wanting to dance, love, swoon and romance. A blend of sort of a blues verse with a-minor regression jazz chorus. A mostly tongue-in-cheek delivery of lightened themes of regret, shame, and helplessness at the feeling of having behaved in awful ways.

Lyrics

why don’t you come and dance with me tonight
why don’t you come and dance with me tonight
it won’t take long and it just might feel right

I have danced with you so long
beneath the golden crescent moon
and felt your rhythms
astride me as we moved

I’m feeling good tonight hey you know I’m feeling great
I gotta lot on my mind but I’ve got a big old empty plate
because I lost my job and from a mental breakdown and now I need a clean slate

but the moon is high
and the stars are right
and I hope we find
time to dance tonight

I ain’t got no money or no clothes or good car
I ain’t got no money or no clothe or no good car
but if you spend yoru time with me I promise that you and me can go

dancing in the moonlight
like a couple of kids
underneath the starlight
I might sneak a kiss

what do you do when you’ve got nothing that you need
what do you do when you’ve got nothing that you need
get down on the ground and beg on your knees please please please

your laughter leaves songs in my mind
as we twirl and sway
your hair a soft caressing wind
that carries me away

despite what you have heard i am really quite a catch
so baby why don’t we go out and strike a match
and then we can see what the embers of our love hatch

the moon wanes night fades away
wakened by the breeze
the morning sun brings up the day
and i know you need to leave

i’m almost done my song now it’s almost through it’s almost through
it didn’t take too long now not as long as I wanna spend with you
that’s just the way that it is don’t you know that I haven’t got much more

we can go dance in the moonlight
and gallivant through the sky
looking up at the starlight.
a constellation of you and I
