The Sacred Act of Withdrawing Consent

I believe that to resist something is to find a way to step outside of its influence over one’s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings in order to build anew. Resistance is the act of saying “this message is from outside my ken, and I need not carry its weight, I will choose my own”. It involves following through beyond the “Drop out” stage and building a new world worth tuning in to on the other side.

Hundreds of thousands of people showed up this past weekend to resist the machinations of a fascist regime-making autocrat, and it was profound on multiple levels, and an awe to bear witness to, even remotely, but I’m left wondering if it was enough to create a force that can and is willing to continue to push back, to reorient itself with a fully-embodied mode of being. To truly step outside of the influence of the regime and be in something new with each other would be magnificent. To wrest ourselves from the thrall of the system running amok and rework a new way of being with each other rather than in service or deference to or for.

I can envision a truly horizontally arranged, care-based society that understands what it means to live with each other in powerful ways, but only if this movement re-emergent this weekend can crest and crash like the wave it should be onto the shores of a new way of living together with a unifying love we’ve yet to see manifested continuously beyond the edge of initial resistance.

This. This would be the most powerful act. Oh to step beyond the influence of the would-be oppressors and build a society around them, ignoring them completely, as they throw their man-child tantrums in an ever-enclosing playpen, unable to harm themselves or our new society. Let’s make that so.

Peace and Love 🙏🏻💜🎶
